Michael Dowding has more than 25 years of marketing, writing, and public relations experience with a track record of award-winning work and quantifiable results. His work for several different organizations early in his career led him to create Wordscape Communications, a freelance writing practice devoted exclusively to the marketing-writing needs of companies in technology, financial services, and life sciences.

Since establishing Wordscape in 1995, Michael has completed a broad variety of writing assignments, projects, public relations programs, and direct-mail campaigns for some of the world's leading technology brands, including Cognos, Demandware, E*TRADE Financial, Intuit, Iron Mountain, Kronos, Lionbridge, LoJack, Macromedia, Mercury Computer, Merrill Corp., EMC/RSA Security, SAS, ScanSoft (SpeechWorks), StorageTek, Sun Microsystems, Sybase, and Texas Instruments. Michael has also worked closely with numerous startups and emerging companies, most recently including Adexa, AirClic, CardScan, Cloudmark, Dorado, Endeca, Enterprise Mobile, Everest Software, Eze Castle Integration, IntelliVid, Lumigent, ManageSoft, Marathon Technologies, Omtool, Pegasystems, Tele Atlas, Tempo Payments, Update Logic, and Workscape.

Michael has also carved out a rapidly emerging practice in health care and medical products and services, working with such companies as Amicore, AstraZeneca, Caritas/St. Elizabeth's, ChartOne, Dyax Pharmaceuticals, Fallon Clinic, Insulet, LeMaitre Vascular, MedMetrics Health Partners, McKesson, PatientKeeper, Somanetics, Versant, and West Pharmaceuticals.

Prior to founding his freelance practice, Michael was an account manager with Neva Group, a high-technology public relations firm. He was responsible for successful public relations and marketing consulting activities for Neva Group's software practice.

Earlier, Michael held a series of marketing communications and product marketing positions with Pilot Software, Inc, a business-intelligence pioneer. As the company's director of marketing communications, he spearheaded the company's marketing programs and communications campaigns before moving to product marketing.

Previously, Michael worked for Phoenix Technologies Ltd., a leading PC system software provider, and Cullinet Software, an early leader in mainframe software, holding positions that spanned such areas as public relations, investor and customer communications, and all areas of collateral materials.

Michael earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Suffolk University with a concentration in finance. He is also a graduate of Boston University where he earned both a Master of Science degree in print journalism and a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree in English literature with a minor in psychology.

Michael is an adjunct lecturer at Boston University's College of Communication where he teaches writing to graduate and undergraduate students. He was the 2006-07 president of The Publicity Club of New England and still serves on the Club's board of directors. In addition to his writing practice and college-level teaching, Michael leads a popular series of PR writing workshops for the Publicity Club and for several leading New England PR agencies. He has also been a freelance contributor to The Boston Globe.
